The Artist:
The year was 1915, and Philippe Marie was born in the small village of Neuvy-le-Roi in France. His parents were Albert Picard and Marie Lehoux; he had a total of six siblings. After studying at the Lycée Descartes in Tours, he entered the studio of the artist François Sicard. He was then accepted to the École supérieure des beaux-arts de Tours from 1932 to 1934, where he was a pupil of Maurice Mathurin. In 1935, he entered the School of Fine Arts in Paris, then in 1936-1938 the studio of Fernand Sabatté, and finally Charles-François-Prosper Guérin studio.

Phillippe Marie exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants 1945, where the city of Paris bought the first painting.
He then exhibited regularly at the Salon des Indépendants until 1989. In 1946 when this painting was created, he exhibited for the first time in Stockholm. At the end of the same year, he was noticed by Youki Desnos and exhibit at the Fontan gallery in Paris. In 1947 and 1948, he participated in a group exhibition at the Marquié Gallery in New York under the title: School of Paris - Paintings with Eugène Boudin , Jean-Baptiste Corot , Braque , Andre Lhote , Élisée Maclet , Camille Pissarro and Henri Rousseau. He travelled to Sweden from October to November 1949. It will be his only trip abroad. Subsequently, he made several important exhibitions in Sweden. He continues to exhibit in Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, Venezuela, Lebanon, Spain, Mexico, Montreal.
In the 1940s, Picard painted realistic portraits, still lifes, and landscapes; he experimented with black lines in his paintings. In the 1950s, his art became more expressionist. Around 1970, he turned to a semi-abstraction and later to Fauvism.

According to the Old Testament, God put Abraham’s faith to the test by commanding him to sacrifice his only son Isaac. Just in the nick of time, an angel of the Lord appeared, forestalling the terrible deed and delivering Abraham from his despair.

Is known to me in the original. After thorough examination of this painting, I am convinced that it was painted by the Flemish painter Adriaen van Stalbemt.
The state of preservation of this painting can be described as very good.
Adriaen van Stalbemt, next to Jan Brueghel the Younger probably the most important successor of Jan Brueghel the Elder, took up many of Brueghel's themes and developed them further. Like many of his contemporaries, Stalbemt followed the example of this great role model. At the age of 29 he converted to the Catholic faith. It goes without saying that a painter in Antwerp had to be familiar with the themes of the Christian religion, since it was necessary to fulfill the wishes of his customers. The design of the spatial composition, reminiscent of the early David Vinckboons, which features juxtaposed landscape sections - on the left the dark foreground, on the right the background illuminated by the sun - indicates that this is an early painting, painted during the period from 1605 to 1610. In this painting, Stalbemt reveals himself to be a great artist who was able to skillfully combine different landscape formations such as forest, river and mountains at an early stage of his career. In interlacing all of these landscape parts into one perspective, this composition is very typical of Adriaen van Stalbemt's work.

Essay:
Born in Helsingør, Denmark, in 1861, Johan Peter von Wildenradt studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen under the renowned Laurits Tuxen. In the late 1880s, he traveled through southern France and was captivated by the vivid light and striking landscapes of Provence. It was there, along the sun-drenched coastline of the French Riviera, that Wildenradt found his artistic voice.

This luminous coastal view from Menton on the Côte d'Azur is a superb example of Wildenradt’s refined eye for color and composition. With its crystalline water, sunlit cliffs, and expressive Mediterranean vegetation, the painting captures a tranquil yet vibrant atmosphere—one that echoes the artist’s deep connection to the region.

Wildenradt’s life was tragically short; he passed away at just 43, leaving behind a small but outstanding body of work. Today, his paintings are rare and sought after, and he is represented in the collection of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Marseille.

Justus Juncker (1703-1763, Germany) Attributed to

Scholar Sharpening His Quill Penn

 

Expertise: We would like to thank Dr. Fred G Meijer for his valuable knowledge in researching this painting. His conclusion as follows: The painting of an old scholar sharpening his pen, in my opinion, is a characteristic work of Justus Juncker (Mainz 1703 – 1767 Frankfurt am Main).
Scholars in their study were a favourite subject of the artist, for instance "Alchemist in his study, sold at Lempertz) and (Dorotheum lot 310, 2020-11). Obviously, Juncker was much inspired by Dutch paintings from the seventeenth century.

BALLET DANCER

A Ballet Dancer painting is a rare find for an artist mostly known for his oeuvre with Cubism and Expressionist paintings.  The current painting has many similarities with Degas sketches in pastel. He probably studied Degas drawings at a museum in 1949 and then made his own interpretation.
