Helmer Osslund is undoubtedly one of the most highly regarded artists in Sweden. His portrayals of the Scandinavian landscape have enthralled audiences both domestically and internationally. He has been called Sweden's Paul Gauguin due to their similar styles, and the fact that Gauguin was his mentor. Osslund often painted on greaseproof paper because it was a cost-effective and easy-to-handle material, which he learned from Gauguin. "Nach dem Regen" (Rainy Night) is a superb piece of Osslund's work. It exemplifies many of the features he is well-known for, such as spontaneous brushstrokes, stormy weather with dramatic clouds, and blue mountains in the background. All of these exquisite details are captured in a small and manageable size of only 28x45 cm. Helmer Osslund's paintings can be found in several prominent museum collections, including Nationalmuseum Stockholm and Göteborgs Konstmuseum.
