Helmer Osslund is by far one of Sweden's most sought-after artists. His depictions of Scandinavian nature have captivated audiences for a long time, both in Sweden and abroad. He is sometimes called Sweden's Paul Gauguin, and the reason for that is the similar style of the well-renowned artist, who was also his teacher. His paintings are often on greaseproof paper because it was a cheap material and easier to handle than canvas; a method he had learned from Gauguin. This painting, which is entitled "Nach dem Regen" (Rainy Night) is an excellent work by Osslund. We can see many of the elements he is best known for - like the spontaneous brush strokes, the rainy clouds and stormy weather with dramatic clouds and blue mountains in the background. All of these fine details are captured in a small manageable size, which is only 28x45 cm. Helmer Osslund's paintings may be seen in many famous museum collections such as Nationalmuseum Stockholm and Göteborgs Konstmuseum.
