Johan Abraham Aleander was a student (1784-1793) at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, received six medals, including the major medal in 1791 and 1793. Aleander is especially known for his drawings of Swedish army uniforms during the first half of the 19th century; he is also known for his landscape paintings, ornaments drawings and sketches of flowers. Trompe l'oeil is a French expression, meaning "deceives the eye," In art, the term Trompe l'oeil refers to the technique of visual illusion, whereby the eye of the viewer is deceived into thinking that a painting is a three-dimensional object, rather than a two-dimensional representation of it.
