FOLLOWER OF ANTONELLO DA MESSINA

PORTRAIT OF A MAN

23x17cm
oil on panel
most likely from the 18th century

PROVENANCE:
Editor and author Nils Petter Tidmark (1910- 1983)

This little portrait, painted by an unknown artist, follows the famous self-portrait in the National Gallery collection in London by Antonello da Messina.
When we came across this portrait a few years ago, it was covered with many layers of old varnish and old restorations.
Our conservator in Stockholm did an impressive job, and today we can see the original colors once again. (see the before and after result down below)
It's hard to determine the age of this painting, but most likely, we think it's painted around the 1700s.
