Martin Säflund was a Swedish painter famous for depicting Italian and Swedish landscapes, figures and portraits.
Säflund studied at the English Academy in Rome from 1926–1927 and with Sigmund Lipinsky in 1929.
He exhibited separately about 20 times in Uppsala and a retrospective exhibition in 1964. Together with Wilhelm Matton he exhibited in Gävle in 1938 and together with Andreas Björkman in Lund in 1946.
Later in his career, he became inspired by modernism and developed his style with abstract features. A good example of this later style is our painting "Båt".
He likely found the inspiration for this new style from the artist group Halmstad gruppen, with members like Gösta Adrian Nilsson (GAN), Erik Olson, Elias Thorén and Waldemar Lorentzon.

Martin Säflund is represented at the Gävle museum, The Upland's art association's collection and San Francesco church in Assisi.
