View Over Strömparterren and the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm
oil on masonite signed Hj.STRÅÅT board dimensions 35 x 50 cm frame 45.5 x 60.5 cm
Hjalmar Strååt learned to paint at Nicky Sahlström's painting school in Norrköping and then studied at Althin's painting school in Stockholm 1908-1909 and 1910-1913 at the Royal Academy of Arts. Strååt exhibited at well-known galleries such as Gummesons konsthall and Galleri Brinken in Stockholm. The location for this painting is in the city centre of Stockholm, just some meters from the Royal Palace and what we see is the park (to the left) Strömparterren and in distance the Royal Swedish Opera. Another interesting detail is the boats with fishing nets to the left which can, still today, be seen at this location. The brushstrokes are thick and spontaneous with a wide spectrum of beautiful colours - an excellent piece.
Hjalmar Strååt is represented in museum collcetions such as Nationalmuseum, Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde, Moderna museet, Stockholms stadsmuseum, Konstakademien, Norrköpings konstmuseum, Västerås konstmuseum, Örebro läns museum, Kalmar konstmuseum, Göteborgs museum, Borås konstmuseum och Värmlands museum.
