signed and dated E Tryggelin 11/6 1913 oil on canvas laid on masonite canvas dimensions 7.48 x 5.90 inches (19 x 15 cm) frame 12.20 x 10.62 inches (31 x 27 cm)
Erik Tryggelin was born in 1878 in Stockholm; he was a Swedish painter, illustrator, graphic artist and photographer. Tryggelin studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts (Konstakademien) in Stockholm, and also in Paris between 1911-1913. This portrait is likely painted in Paris during the time of his studies, he painted it with quick, spontaneous brushstrokes, and one of our favourite details is the highlights in blue which makes this portrait even more delightful. It is a thin line between a masterwork and an overworked portrait, in this portrait, we think Tryggelin finished at the exact right point.
