Arvid Mauritz Lindström was born 1849 in Västmanland, Sweden. His parents were Per Fredrik Lindström and Hedvig Ringström. He studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts in Stockholm from 1869–1872. In 1877 Lindström became an apprentice at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts, and in 1886 he joined the Art Association. He lived in England, mainly in London, from the early 1880s to 1889. Most of Lindströms's oeuvre is on larger canvases and in some rare cases, he made smaller ones, like this painting from 1895. It appears to be a Landscape from Engelberg (There is a written note on the backside of the panel; Mauritz Lindström Engeleberg 1895). It is a so-called Plein air painting, painted on point - outdoors on his travel across Switzerland, it's painted with a lot of spontaneous brush-strokes with thicker layers in some areas which gives a beautiful three-dimensional feeling. Lindström is considered one of Sweden's most talented landscape painters and he is also called Sweden's Peder Mønsted.
