Alfred Thörne - Water Reflections From Brevens Bruk
Alfred Thörne (1850-1916) Sweden
Water Reflections From Brevens (Brefvens) Bruk
Alfred Thörne was one of Sweden's most talented landscape painters active in the later part of the 19th century and early 1900s. He studied under Per Daniel Holm at the Art Academy in Stockholm from 1874–1880, and after school, he had a lot of success as an artist. Thörne won a Royal Medal in 1880 for the painting Summer Morning; in 1881, he became agré at the art academy and exhibited at the Art Academy's exhibitions in Stockholm as well as the Nordic Art and Industrial Exhibition in Copenhagen in 1888, the Gothenburg Exhibition in 1891, the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. This beautiful small painting is from Brevens Bruk, and it's obvious what a talented artist Alfred Thörne was; the water is painted with careful brush strokes with a lot of spontaneity. Brevens Bruk has a history back to the medieval age; in 1898, it was an ironworks movement, and today the primary industry for Brevens Bruk is forestry, agriculture and property management. Thörne painted at least two paintings from Brevens Bruk, another one last seen at Bukowskis back in 2011. Read more about Brevens Bruk here
